Are you looking for a physiotherapist?Date: 15/05/2017
The Cabrini Allied Health Centre (located at Cabrini Malvern and a satellite service at Cabrini Brighton) provides services designed to enhance the health, mobility and wellbeing of the local community. No referral is necessary, people can simply call ph (03) 9508 1400 or walk in.
The Cabrini Allied Health Centre offers the following services:
- Diabetes education
- Health psychology
- Occupational therapy
- Speech pathology
- Women’s health exercise and education classes
Owned, operated and staffed by Cabrini, these specially designed clinics have the latest equipment and highly skilled staff.
Executive Director Natalie Sullivan says patients find the service convenient with all the services they need under one roof. “There is a single point of access for all the clinics, which means that a patient who needs more than one service will be managed centrally,” she said.
The clinics support people who have either completed inpatient rehabilitation programs, attended an emergency department and need further care or who have gone home from hospital. Should a person be unable to attend the clinics, the allied health service can provide treatment in the familiarity and comfort of the person’s own home.
As well as individual consultations, groups are offered such as the mums and bubs program, which gives new mothers the opportunity to exercise with their newborns in the company of others who have recently had babies, as well as clinical Pilates.
While Cabrini is known for its allied health services (with 64 per cent of people of the local community aware of these services), not everyone is aware of how to access allied health professionals which is where the Cabrini Allied Health Centre comes in. People don’t need a referral to attend the centre and can access it for a range of healthcare needs.
Allied health is the umbrella term for clinical healthcare professions who provide a range of diagnostic, technical, therapeutic, direct patient care and support services. Allied health professionals – such as dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech pathologists and social workers, as well as specialists in the management of chronic diseases such as heart failure and diabetes – play an important part in restoring/optimising a person’s physical condition and abilities.
As well as serving the local community, the Cabrini Allied Health Centre caters for the ongoing needs of Cabrini patients once they have gone home from hospital. This may include ongoing rehabilitation following an inpatient stay at Cabrini Rehabilitation located in Elsternwick, after presenting to the emergency department, or following an inpatient admission at Cabrini’s Brighton or Malvern hospitals. Patients can see the same clinician who attended to them on the ward, providing continuity in their care.
The Cabrini Allied Health Centre is situated on the first floor of the hospital’s E block, 183 Wattletree Road, Malvern.
