Settlement of court proceedings in relation to allegations against the late Dr Andrew Churchyard
This week there has been media coverage of court proceedings related to the late Dr Andrew Churchyard, a neurologist who previously consulted at Cabrini. We extend our sympathies to the people who have been affected and their families for any suffering they have endured, as well as to the bereaved.
In August 2016, the Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency commissioned an independent review of the use of chaperones to protect patients, which was conducted by Professor Ron Patterson. Cabrini made a submission to this review. The report was provided to the authorities in February 2017.
Cabrini welcomes this report, which has provided clarity around the issues, and has accepted the recommendations that apply to us. We have implemented changes designed to strengthen safeguards in relation to patient safety.
Cabrini encourages patients to raise any concerns
At Cabrini, we are committed to safety and quality and we put patient/resident safety first. It is important that patients understand what treatments they are receiving and why. If ever a patient or their loved one is unsure or concerned about their care or treatment, we encourage them to seek a second opinion.
Should you have any queries or concerns about treatment you have received from any healthcare practitioner at Cabrini, please contact us on ph (03) 9508 1661 or email@example.com
