Emergency Medicine Training Program

Our cutting edge ED is working towards a new model of Emergency Medicine, focusing on patient care, compassion and excellence in service provision

Cabrini Hospital is a Private not-for-profit Catholic health service delivering excellence in health care. Our ED is at our flagship site, Cabrini Malvern, a Tertiary 508-bed acute hospital with inpatient services across all specialties including Cardiology (24/7 Catherisation lab access) Oncology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracics, Obstetrics, ICU and Paediatrics.

Our cutting edge ED is working towards a new model of Emergency Medicine, focusing on patient care, compassion and excellence in service provision. We have developed Australia’s first Medical Scribe Trial and an award-winning Nursing Follow-up Phone Call Program.

We are a highly regarded 21-bed department operational for 14 years, with attendances of 24,000 per annum and an admission rate of 50%. We have ACEM accreditation for 12 months of advanced training and Paediatric Log Book.

We have a well-resourced department with high patient acuity and a committed, caring workforce and culture. We provide an excellent environment to develop Registrar skills as they make the transition to becoming a FACEM. We enjoy a new paradigm of 24/7 direct access to supportive inpatient consultants along with open access to Radiology.

We have a highly successful Fellowship Exam program run by an enthusiastic, supportive teaching team offering exposure to senior examiners. As a result we have had 18 successful candidates in the last 4 years with a success rate of 95%.

We provide weekly Education and Fellowship Teaching protected time along with excellent Paediatrics experience (25% case mix) and access to regular in-house Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Courses. A Cabrini practice Fellowship Clinical Exam for Cabrini Registrars is under development for 2017. Registrars also have access to on-site Ultrasound training from an experienced FACEM with a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound.
