Surprise New Year’s delivery for two new mumsDate: 16/01/2019
There was plenty to celebrate on New Year’s Day at Cabrini, with the arrival of two babies to herald the start of 2019.
Lucy Vu missed her New Year’s Day lunch to give birth to her second child, daughter Harper.
“We were at the park celebrating when I went into labour,” Mrs Vu said.
Harper was two days early, originally due on January 3.
“We didn’t mind what day she was born, as long as she came out happy and healthy with ten fingers and ten toes.”
Harper is a daughter for dad Peter and a little sister for Harrison, 22 months.
“She is the first girl on both sides of the family, so everyone is really excited,” Mrs Vu said.
“This is definitely the most memorable New Year’s yet and now we will always have an extra special reason to celebrate.”
Marianne Carter also welcomed a baby into the world on New Year’s Day at Cabrini, son Ari.
Ms Carter said she had been taking it easy on New Year’s Eve in anticipation of his arrival.
“He was due on New Year’s Day, so he was right on schedule,” she said.
“I’m excited that he was born on New Year’s Day, it’s a very positive way to start the year. There will always be fireworks and celebrations on his birthday – it will save on party preparations.”
Ms Carter will have her hands full over the next couple of months, as she is also preparing to walk down the aisle in March.
Her first husband, David Carter, died suddenly in 2015. They had two children together – Will, now aged nine, and Zoe, now aged five.
Ms Carter said her new relationship with her husband-to-be, Chris Barkla, and the birth of their son Ari, had brought something positive out of a negative experience.
“It is difficult when you have pictured your whole life ahead of you and suddenly it all changes, I had to adjust my thinking and essentially brush everything clean and start again,” she said.
“Having met Chris, and now with Ari, it feels like this is my silver lining. We felt like a family before but this has just consolidated our relationship.”
Ari is the first baby for Mr Barkla and the first grandchild on his side of the family, making him a much-loved addition.
