Did you know that physiotherapy is part of almost every service at Cabrini? We employ 90 physiotherapists and offer physiotherapy for all stages of a patient’s journey, from hospital admission through to rehabilitation as well as in the home environment. We offer physiotherapy for all ages, from paediatrics through to end-of-life care.

On 8 September we are celebrating World Physiotherapy Day—a global event recognising the incredible role physiotherapists play in the community. This is an opportunity to reflect on the fantastic physiotherapy services we have at Cabrini.

Our inpatient service offers physiotherapy on all wards at Malvern and Brighton, including paediatric, ICU, respiratory, cardiac, oncology, neurological, orthopaedic, surgical, general medical and women’s health, and palliative. services at Prahran.

Inpatient rehabilitation is offered at Elsternwick, Hopetoun and Brighton. The inpatient service is for patients who are unable to safely be at home and require a multidisciplinary rehabilitation service, including physiotherapy

We also have an outpatient rehabilitation service at Elsternwick and Hopetoun, which includes physiotherapy for a range of conditions. We have specialised programs for people living with Parkinson’s, oncology, pain, stroke, cardiac, cognitive, pulmonary, falls, reconditioning, orthopaedic and neurological programs. A referral is required for this service.

Patients are also able to access physiotherapy services in the home to enable them to remain in their own environment.

Cabrini’s Allied Health Centre (CAHC), which is open to all members of the community including our staff, offers a range of physiotherapy services from general musculoskeletal and sports, through to specialist services like women’s health, pilates, respiratory, lymphoedema, and the GLAD (Good life with osteoarthritis: Denmark) program. The GLAD program assists people suffering hip and knee osteoarthritis through all phases of life and ability. The program involves a comprehensive assessment, group education and exercise classes throughout the week. The lymphoedema service provides screening, education and treatment to people at risk of or with confirmed and is available at Brighton and Malvern.

The Respiratory service (airways clearance clinic) supports patients with chronic lung conditions by improving self-management with modern techniques. This service is offered at Malvern and Brighton.

Our Women’s Health service offers physiotherapy assistance to women throughout pregnancy and following the birth of their child. This program offers a full suite of exercise programs and expert individualised treatment.

Staff can access any of the physiotherapy services onsite including treatment for muscular aches and pains and work related injuries. Our pilates program is very popular with staff, who receive a discount on all services. No referral is required. To make an appointment at CAHC call 9508 1400.

A central ‘access’ hub for all allied health services, including physiotherapy, is currently being established and is expected to be up and running by October. This will ensure patients receive appropriate and timely clinical care by providing clinical support for referrals to our large number of services.

Physios – whether you are in our hospitals, rehabilitation centres or helping patients at home we thank you for the crucial role you play in keeping people well and improving their quality of life.
