  • Who do I contact?

When diagnosed with breast cancer, your general practitioner will refer you to a breast surgeon. Your surgeon will then refer you to Brightways. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact the Brightways Service Coordinator directly on 03 9508 5550.

  • How much will my treatment cost?

The cost of treatment will depend on your private health insurance policy and the type of medical tests and treatment you need. Please speak to your doctors and your health insurance company to discuss the expected cost of your treatment.

Generally hospital cover policies pay the cost of in-hospital treatment by your doctor and hospital costs such as accommodation and theatre fees. You may have to pay a medical gap which is the difference between the total fee charged by your doctor and any Medicare rebate plus health fund benefit.

Most private health insurance hospital cover includes chemotherapy. Medical oncologists have entered into arrangements with most private insurers to cover all of your charges for inpatient services, meaning you will not have to contribute towards the doctor's bill out of your own pocket for chemotherapy and other inpatient treatments. Please clarify this with your doctor and insurer, as there are maybe exceptions.

There are no out of pocket expenses for scalp cooling for chemotherapy, wig room service, planning of your treatment at a multidisciplinary meeting, consultations with a breast care nurse and cancer information sessions for patients and families.

Please notes this is a guide only. For further information, please speak to your doctors and insurer as there are maybe exceptions.
