Community update

17 September 2025 – Crane works – 22 September

Crane works will take place at Cabrini Malvern on Monday 22 September

The crane will deliver materials for a ventilation system as part of the new theatres being constructed within the existing building. They will be delivered through a window on level one of the hospital, allowing us to complete this process efficiently and minimise disruption to patients.

To operate the crane safely, reduced speed zones will operate on Winter and Isabella Streets between 7 am and 3.30 pm. Thank you for your understanding.

Work in progress

14 July 2025 – Temporary drilling work in Malvern outdoor carpark (15-22 July)

Please be advised that there will be some intermittent drilling work taking place in the outdoor medical staff carpark (corner Wattletree Road and Coonil Crescent) from 15-22 July.

This temporary work is to complete some required soil testing in preparation for future redevelopment works. The public carpark remains open and is not affected by these works.

We aim to keep noise and disruption to a minimum and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Any patients or community members wishing to stay up to date with Cabrini’s redevelopment works, can sign up here for major updates.

Building update

10 June 2025 – New theatres update

Building work has now commenced on four new theatres at Cabrini Malvern’s existing site. The theatre build – scheduled for completion in early 2026 – will take us to an additional six new theatres in total (two are already complete) and one new cardiac catheter lab.

We are excited to expand our capabilities to meet increasing community demand, particularly in the areas of cardiac, orthopaedic, and cancer care.

To ensure safety and minimise the impact of works, the Isabella Street entrance to the Malvern operating theatres will be temporarily closed during this time (see below notification for more information).

Cabrini and our building partners Kingdom would like to thank our community for their understanding while we deliver new facilities as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Access update

30 May 2025 – Isabella Street entrance closed

From 28 May, the Isabella Street entrance to the Malvern operating theatres will be temporarily closed while we begin work on our new theatres.

We welcome patients to enter via the underground carpark or through the main entrance during this time.

Should you or your loved one require support to make the short walk from the main entrance to theatre admissions, please speak to the concierge on arrival.

Isabella Street access to Pathology and Cabrini Cancer Institute will remain open during these works.

Community update

March 2025 – Purchase of Coonil Crescent roadway

Cabrini’s planned purchase of the Coonil Crescent roadway is likely to be tabled on the agenda of the upcoming Stonnington Council Meeting at the end of March. This is simply an administrative step required in the process and does not reflect any changes to the existing plan or timelines.

We remain committed to the plans discussed at the community consultations in 2023. The latest recording of our community meeting can be viewed here.

Community update

April 2024 –  Rezoning approval

Cabrini is pleased to provide an update on the planning process for our long-term redevelopment plans.

Cabrini applied to the State Government late last year, to re-zone some of its property to undertake a redevelopment that meets the current and future needs of our local community. Approval for these planning amendments has now been received, with some minor modifications to our original plans. We will continue to work closely with Stonnington Council and consult with the local community as we progress through the planning process.
