At Cabrini we offer a comprehensive range of paediatric surgical, medical and clinical services. Our highly experienced specialists provide a friendly and family-centred care to infants, children and adolescents across a range of specialties including:

  • Referrals

    You need a GP referral to be seen by a Cabrini specialist and to receive any relevant Medicare rebate.

    Your GP can help you select the most suitable specialist to treat your child. Alternatively, you can visit the Find a Doctor directory to find a paediatrician or a paediatric surgeon.

    If the matter is urgent, the Cabrini Malvern Emergency Department (ED) can help you 24 hours, 7 days a week. The ED team can refer you to the most appropriate paediatric specialist for your individual needs.

    You will need to provide a referral to your patient to see a Cabrini specialist. To find a suitable paediatrician or a paediatric surgeon please visit the Find a Doctor directory for our list of experts.

    Our doctors, surgeons and healthcare professionals are always available to help. Please call them directly if you would like advice, or to discuss a treatment plan in advance.

    If your patient is unwell, the specialist of your choice can admit them for inpatient observation and treatment.

    Alternatively, if the matter is urgent, the Cabrini Malvern Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The ED team can provide a referral to the most appropriate specialist to meet your patient’s needs.

    All children and young people who come to Cabrini have a right to feel and be safe. Cabrini policies and practices aim to keep children safe from harm and proactively address any child safety risks.

    Cabrini is committed to providing a safe environment for children and young people and child safety is an identified priority. This includes the identification of, and response to, child safety risks and incidents, and compliance with legislation.

    Cabrini has a zero tolerance of child abuse. All allegations and safety concerns are treated seriously and consistently with structures in place to report child safety issues at the highest level of governance.

    Organisational policies and procedures are in place to –

    • minimise risk and eliminate the potential for harm to children and young people;
    • empower and support children and young people and ensure their voices are heard;
    • implement robust human resources practices for all staff, contractors and volunteers, recognising that every person at Cabrini has a role to play in creating a safe environment for children and young people; and
    • meet the Child Safe Standards (Vic) and other legislative requirements including duty of care and reporting obligations.

    Cabrini strives to embed a culture of child safety across the organisation. Ongoing monitoring and review will ensure the system is responsive to the needs of children. Additional consideration is given to the needs of vulnerable children – specifically children with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Visiting paediatric patients

Day patients – To adhere to social distancing guidelines, only one parent is to come with their child for the duration of their operation and stay until discharge.

Overnight patients – One parent with the child for the duration of their stay. A second parent or visitor may visit for one hour after the child is back from surgery, before 8pm.

Hip Dysplasia Clinic

The Cabrini Hip Dysplasia Clinic offers a unique ‘one stop’ multidisciplinary approach to assessing and managing hip dysplasia in babies.

Babies can be assessed clinically, imaged by ultrasound and bracing treatment can commence (if required) all in the initial appointment. Review appointments are also held at the same clinic ensuring convenient access to all members of our team.

Scoliosis and Paediatric Spinal Service

The Cabrini Scoliosis and Paediatric Spinal Service provides a holistic approach to the assessment, management and treatment of children and young adults with scoliosis. Our highly experienced clinicians are leaders in scoliosis care and deliver the most up-to-date advice, information and treatment.

Travel Immunisation

The Family Immunisation and Travel Specialists (FITS) is a family-oriented travel and immunisation specialist clinic. The clinic brings together highly experienced children and family doctors and nursing professionals to enable the provision of expert travel medicine and immunisation care to families and children.

The clinic operates four times a month on Mondays and Thursdays.
