Cabrini welcomes Pope Leo XIV

Cabrini Australia joins with the Church and the global community in celebrating Pope Leo XIV.
American-born, Cardinal Robert Prevost is a missionary of the Order of Saint Augustine. He is also a citizen of Peru, where he served as priest and Bishop for more than 30 years.
In choosing the name Leo, the Pope is signifying his strong commitment to the principles of the Catholic Social Teachings of Pope Leo XIII: dignity, solidarity and the common good among them.
In his first greeting, Pope Leo’s emphasis was on peace and unity among peoples.
“We have to look together how to be a missionary Church, building bridges, dialogue, always open to receiving with open arms for everyone… open to all, to all who need our charity, our presence, dialogue, love.”
Mother Cabrini and her sisters were missioned to the United States by Pope Leo XIII. We think of all the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus throughout the world today as they celebrate the election of a missionary as Pope who has lived his life committed – as they are – to serving the poor and vulnerable.
