Mighty marathon in record rain
07/11/2022
Cabrini’s Cardiac team braved Victoria’s wettest month on record to pull off a marathon fundraising effort in October.
Led by cardiac ANUM Tika Pawar, the group raised over $4,000, doubling the amount they raised in their first attempt last year.
“As cardiac nurses we deal with the burden of cardiovascular disease and mend broken hearts daily,” Tika says.
“We wanted to raise funds for research in our spare time.”
More than 10 nurses from 1 South and 1 West joined the event in which they could run, walk, ride or swim to accumulate kilometres.
Some did a marathon distance every week, although Tika says they were challenged by ongoing downpours during the month.
“The weather wasn’t great during the month but I managed a 30 km and 20 km bike ride towards the end,” she says.
“The team members got very competitive about racking up kilometres.”
