Construction works on new theatres at Cabrini Malvern

The ground floor building works at Cabrini Malvern are progressing at pace and on track to deliver four new state-of-the-art theatres and one cardiac catheter laboratory in early 2026.

“The transformation of the space in just a few months is incredible,” said Cabrini’s Perioperative Services Nurse Director, Kerry Bateman.

Demolition and preparation of the internal roof was completed in August, and the internal walls are now in place with the required filtration systems, gas, and electrical work.  This week, Cabrini’s building partners, Kingdom Projects, have been installing the external roof that will join the space between the new theatre block and patient recovery area.

“While our builders have been progressing the site, we’ve been deep in planning for the new modernised facilities to open. This includes everything from the recruitment of perioperative services staff, to ordering new equipment, to planning new theatre lists for our surgeons,” said Ms Bateman.

“We’re continually grateful for the support of our patients, staff, and visitors while we complete the build as efficiently as possible. We look forward to revealing our expanded facilities to the community early next year and helping to meet increasing demand in the areas of cardiology, oncology, and orthopaedic surgery,” she said.

The theatres and catheter lab build is part of Cabrini’s ‘Next Era’ redevelopment project, designed to meet the needs of an additional 70,000 patients each year, the long-term masterplan includes major renovations to the existing Cabrini Malvern site, as well as the construction of a proposed new east building on Coonil Crescent.
