Nursing education

Nursing education programs

At Cabrini, we aim to provide an excellent patient and family experience for every patient, every day. A committed, well-informed nursing team is essential to achieving this vision.

For this reason, we offer a series of training programs, including:

  • Undergraduate programs
  • Graduate programs
  • Transition to specialist practice
  • Postgraduate programs
  • Ongoing education

Cabrini takes pride in creating a safe, supportive and hands-on learning environment for undergraduate students.

Students have the opportunity to experience placements in both acute, sub-acute and aged care settings, under the supervision of highly trained facilitators and clinicians.

We view undergraduates as our leaders of the future and invest in their development clinically, professionally and personally.

As a teaching hospital, Cabrini partners with a number of education providers to offer clinical placements for nursing students at all levels of study.

Student placement agreements currently exist with:

  • Australian Catholic University
  • Swinburne University of Technology
  • Monash University
  • Holmesglen Institute

We offer many opportunities at Cabrini for nurses to expand their careers. Our transition to speciality practice programs in perioperative, cardiac, emergency and intensive care nursing support nurses to transition into the speciality areas. These programs also assist to prepare nurses for postgraduate study.

Cabrini is also developing a transition program for palliative care and cancer nursing.

Working closely with our university partners enables us to create a unique learning environment where course participants are able to excel.

Program participants attend university study days and have access to tutorials and clinical support at Cabrini.

Learning is a lifelong process, to support this Cabrini has more than 160 eLearning courses available on our learning platform called Workday. We also offer clinical skills workshops, preceptorship and clinical supervision workshops.

The clinical education department also have a team of clinical support nurses and clinical educators to support clinicians with bedside education and training.

To support ongoing education, Cabrini has a state-of-the-art simulation centre with access to a large range of mannequins and simulation technology to promote a supported and safe learning environment.
