Dr Shamil Cooray

I am an endocrinologist with a special interest in all types of diabetes including type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, osteoporosis and osteopenia, thyroid disorders including cancer and weight management. I also have expertise in the management of other endocrine problems, including parathyroid gland and calcium disorders, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders and male and female reproductive disorders. I consult at Cabrini Malvern, where I also provide inpatient care for my patients.

I graduated from Monash University and undertook specialist training at the Alfred Hospital, the University Hospital Geelong and Monash Health. I hold clinical appointments as a consultant endocrinologist at Monash and Alfred Health. I was awarded a PhD from Monash University for my thesis on gestational diabetes, clinical prediction modelling and risk-stratified treatment. This research was supported by scholarships from the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Academy of Science and Diabetes Australia.
