On behalf of Cabrini Australia, we join with the Church and world community in mourning the death of His Holiness Pope Francis.

We have lost a significant world leader and modern Pontiff, who prioritised the poor, the marginalised and the earth, our common home.

Born the son of Italian migrants in Argentina, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1969. In 2013 when elected Pope, he took the name Francis after Francis of Assisi who dedicated his entire life to serving the poor.

The church and our world have lost an extraordinary person who gave his life to serve those in need. Importantly he was unrelenting in rebuilding our church into a place of love and hope where all God’s people are welcome.

Let us remember our Pope in our prayers and give thanks for his life of profound love and compassion for the vulnerable.
