We offer a very specialised field of cancer care in the area of gynaecological oncology (gynae-oncology). Gynae-oncological cancers affect women’s reproductive organs including endometrial, cervical, ovarian and uterine cancers; and all cancers affecting the fallopian tubes, vagina and the vulva.
At Cabrini you will have access to the knowledge and expertise of leading surgeons, specialist nurses, medical and radiation oncologists. We also offer a wide range of support services important in the treatment and management of your health including dietitians, physiotherapists and rehabilitation experts. We regularly review treatment plans with all members of our team to ensure we offer a coordinated care to best suit each individual’s needs.
If you choose to be treated at Cabrini you will have rapid access to clinical experts and diagnostic services. We aim to see new patients within a week of diagnosis or referral. Medical imaging can usually be done the following day, and biopsies within three to five days. Following the initial assessment we provide fast referrals to our sub-specialty colleagues to allow appropriate treatment to start as soon as possible.
Our gynae-oncology specialists are at the forefront of the latest screening, diagnostics and advancements in surgical techniques such as robotic surgery. Our team is also actively involved in the latest clinical trials and committed to putting emerging treatments into practice.

Referrals
If you have been diagnosed with a genitourinary cancer your GP will refer you to a specialist at Cabrini hospital. Your GP can help select the most suitable specialist to treat you. Alternatively, you can visit the Find a Doctor directory.
At Cabrini, we ensure all patients with genitourinary cancer receive prompt treatment. We aim to assign new patients to a specialist within hours of an urgent referral and within a week for non-urgent referrals.
We have all the support services required for your care in one location, including all medical imaging and pathology services. This ensures coordinated care and reduces stress during what can be a challenging time.
At Cabrini, we ensure all patients with a genitourinary cancer receive prompt treatment. We aim to triage new patients within hours of an urgent referral and within a week for non-urgent referrals.
When referring a patient to a Cabrini specialist, please include all pathology and imaging test results. Please note Cabrini offers comprehensive pathology and medical imaging services onsite.

Alternatively, if the matter is urgent, the Cabrini Malvern Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The ED team can provide a referral to the most appropriate specialist to meet your patients’ need.

Genetic counselling
We also provide genetic counselling through our Family Cancer Clinic.
The service offers hereditary cancer risk assessment by specialist genetic counsellors and oncologists for those concerned about their personal or family history of cancer.
We aim to support those to come to decisions about managing their risk of cancer.
Gynae-oncology cancer services
Cabrini offers diagnostics, surgical treatment, chemotherapy and radiation oncology in appropriate cases. A team of healthcare professionals will work together with services offered at Cabrini to diagnose and treat gynaecological cancers. Our services include:
- Chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted treatments through the new Gandel Wing day oncology and infusion centre, or inpatient ward
- Clinical trials including Phase 1 studies and access programs for some drugs prior to PBS reimbursement
- Education programs and sessions, chemotherapy diary
- Family Cancer Clinic – genetic counselling
- Full range of medical imaging including state of the art PET scan and interventional radiology including PICC lines and ports
- Look good feel better program
- Living with Cancer – a free information group education session, located at Cabrini Brighton
- Lymphoedema services
- On site radiotherapy with GenesisCare Radiation Oncology
- Pain and palliative care services – consultant and outpatient, home based and dedicated inpatient if needed
- Pastoral care and bereavement services
