For simple queries related to your recent visit, please call our front desk on 9508 1500 and let staff know that you have a question regarding your recent ED visit.​

If you have symptoms that are new or significantly worse, an in-person review is recommended. Please return to Cabrini ED (if safe), attend your nearest ED, or call an ambulance – dial triple zero (000). ​​

For unresolved but non-urgent issues, please see your GP or Specialist. Conditions that occur after your ED visit require a new medical consultation. Cabrini ED does not offer a telehealth service for new conditions.​

All ED patient test results and reports are reviewed by an ED doctor each day, including for those patients who have been discharged home. If your test result indicates a need for a change in your care plan, the ED doctor will either directly contact you (or the parent for paediatric patients) or discuss the report with your treating specialist.​

Some more specialised tests (microbiology, complex imaging) take longer than 24 hours for reports to be finalised.  Cabrini ED staff review the updates to test results daily.  If a test result will affect your care (changes to medications or injury management), we will contact you.  If the initial ED care plan is appropriate for the test result, your GP or specialist will review your response to treatment.​​

Your ED doctor may have organised for you to have an imaging test after your ED visit and advised for you to come back to the ED for this result to be reviewed and your care plan updated. In other cases where the test is less urgent you should follow up with your GP or specialist who will be able to access copies of your images and reports through the I-MED service.​

Radiology reporting at Cabrini Imaging is provided by I-MED.  Reports and images are available online to your GP and specialists to access through the I-MED portal. Images and reports are also available via the My-IMED link on the I-MED website. Cabrini Imaging does not provide hard copies of imaging tests.

Pathology and microbiology tests are performed by Melbourne Pathology.  Your GP and specialists can access results directly through this service. Your pathology results are also made available on ‘My Health Record’ in the week after reports are finalised for those who have signed up for this service.

If you have trouble booking a follow-up appointment with a referred specialist, or if you’ve changed specialists, please contact us via edpatientfollowup@cabrini.com.au. We are happy to help with referral coordination that relates to your most recent ED visit.

We understand that healthcare costs can be unexpected. It is for this reason that our clerical staff explain our fees and ask patients to sign a financial consent form outlining their understanding of our fees. Current federal legislation prevents private health insurers from paying private ED fees, even if you are subsequently admitted as an inpatient.​
