Your stay at Cabrini

A typical length of stay in hospital following the birth of your baby is four nights. We have compiled a suggested list of items to bring with you to hospital.

Rooming-in allows you and your baby to remain together. It helps to build confidence in caring for your baby, establish a breastfeeding routine and promotes bonding between you, your partner and your new baby.

Maternity patients may have an unlimited number of visitors per day during our visiting hours of 3 – 8pm.  Siblings can visit during these times, however no other children are permitted in the maternity ward as visitors.

Your partner/designated support person may attend the maternity ward at any time.

We request that you limit your visitors to two or three people at any one time and if your visitors are unwell, we ask that they do not attend Cabrini at this time.

We recommend that your visitors check in with you regarding a suitable time and respect your time frame to stay to allow others to also catch up with you.

We all know there’s no place like home. Should you choose to return home sooner, you are eligible to receive a support package. Returning home sooner will always depend on how you and your baby are feeling and upon consultation with your doctor.

At Cabrini Maternity, we want to help you through the rewarding and sometimes challenging journey of breastfeeding your baby. We see this guide as a practical tool that provides you with information to assist you to breastfeed your baby. The guide is not designed to take the place of in-person support (provided to you by our midwives, nurses and lactation consultants), but rather compliment the support and advice you will receive, during your stay at Cabrini Maternity.

Our breastfeeding clinic, led by our lactation consultants, provides support, education and assistance to Cabrini mothers and babies up to six weeks of age, as an outpatient service if required.
