Referrals
You need a referral from a GP to be seen by a Cabrini specialist and receive any relevant Medicare rebate.

Alternatively, if the matter is urgent, the Cabrini Malvern Emergency Department (ED) can help you 24 hours, 7 days a week. The ED team can refer you to the most appropriate specialist to cater for your individual needs.

Preparing for your surgery
Understanding how to best prepare and set yourself up for an easier recovery is an important step in planning your surgery.
| Preadmission Once booked for your surgery, you must complete the health questionnaire via our patient portal. You will also be sent a link for a survey online to assist us with planning your recovery. It’s important to do these tasks early. Your surgeon may also arrange tests for prior to your admission, which can all be done at Cabrini. |
Physiotherapy If needed, you will be contacted to arrange a visit to a Cabrini physiotherapist prior to your surgery. They will provide you with education, advise on required equipment, and show you exercises to assist in preparing for surgery. They will also discuss your rehabilitation needs and answer any questions. |
Packing When packing for your hospital stay, bring medications in their original packaging, comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, and toiletries. You should bring forearm crutches if advised. Bring any electronics you might need but otherwise leave your valuables at home. |

| Preparing for discharge Following a short stay in hospital, most patients recover best at home — and we support that with our rehabilitation in the home program. In some cases, inpatient rehabilitation at Cabrini Brighton may be recommended, which we will assist you in arranging. |

Rehabilitation
Cabrini offers a full range of rehabilitation services, tailored to meet your needs after your surgery. The majority of patients return home after their stay in hospital and receive Rehabilitation in the Home.

Rehab in the Home
Involves physiotherapists coming to your home to provide rehabilitation that facilitates your recovery.

Outpatients
Located in Elsternwick, our rehabilitation outpatient program involves patients attending during the day to participate in their rehabilitation. Here you will undertake a treatment, exercise and education program to improve your function.

Inpatients
Located at Cabrini Brighton, our inpatient rehabilitation service caters for people who require additional support when commencing their rehabilitation. Commonly followed by outpatient rehabilitation, this service supports your recovery with the aim of getting you home safely.
