Dr Adaobi Udechuku
Psychiatrist
I am an Australian trained perinatal psychiatrist with over 25 years’ expertise ensuring the emotional health and wellbeing of mothers, fathers and infants from preconception, during pregnancy and post-pregnancy. I manage all emotional health concerns in the perinatal period including antenatal and postnatal depression or anxiety, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, adjustment to parenthood, impaired bonding as well as serious mental illnesses such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Postpartum Psychosis. My approach is holistic and collaborative covering lifestyle factors and evidence-based psychological therapies including parent-infant therapy if required. I have particular expertise in the safe use of medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding and work closely with obstetric, midwifery, general practice colleagues and other practitioners to ensure the best possible outcomes.
I obtained my medical degree from the University of Melbourne where I attended Trinity College. I completed my psychiatry training in perinatal mental health at the Austin Parent Infant Unit and Mercy Hospital for Women. In 2016 with my colleague Dr Lucinda Smith, I established GLOW Clinic, an award winning unique, holistic and contemporary perinatal emotional health and wellbeing clinic. In 2018 I was invited to bring GLOW Clinic to the Cabrini Mother & Baby Centre (CMBC) as the holistic philosophy is closely aligned with GLOW’s. At the CBC I consult alongside GLOW colleagues Clinical Perinatal Psychologist Ms. Meaghan Jones and Ms. Romy Briner.
