Mr Niki Maartens
Neurosurgeon
I am a highly experienced neurosurgeon with a private appointment at Cabrini and a public commitment at the Alfred Hospital. I am both a general neurosurgeon and a specialist endoscopic skull base pituitary surgeon. I specialise in complex spine surgery and cranial microsurgery. To date, I have performed over 13,000 neurosurgical procedures.
I undertook my neurosurgical training at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford where I was one of the last registrars personally trained by Christopher Adams, an internationally recognised neurosurgeon. I then did a fellowship training in the USA under Ed Laws specialising in pituitary surgery.
I am a senior lecturer at Monash University and published more than 60 academic papers. I am also part of the brain and spinal neuro-oncology team at the Alfred Hospital where I lead the Melbourne Pituitary Neuroendocrine Service.
